Mr. Perfect

Sometimes we miss the blessing and enjoyment of having a new husband. I think for most of us, we didn’t know we had an old husband. Apostle Paul refers to the old covenant and new covenant as a marriage. Under the law, the only way we could get free from the marriage is if the husband dies. Romans 7:4 says,  “Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring fruit unto God.”

Trying to keep the law was like being married to Mr. Perfect. Nothing you ever did was good enough. It was like being set up to fail. So why do we try to keep the law? Why are we trying to hold on to Mr. Perfect? Being married to Mr. Perfect sounds good to me, also. Because of our flesh, the law is very hard to walk away from. We want to believe that we can be good enough. Do you know what the law commands in Exodus 20:14? “You shall not commit adultery”. There’s no command telling you to love him or her. Just because I don’t cheat on you doesn’t mean I love you. The law (old covenant) was holy and righteous. This level of perfection was something we could never achieve. Romans 5:6 says, we were powerless and ungodly. Okay, so let’s move on from trying to be pleasing to God by keeping the law.

Now we have a new Husband (Jesus) who kept all the righteous requirements of the law for us. Matthew 5:17. Thus becoming perfect, holy and righteous for us so that we would never have to fear rejection, abandonment or condemnation ever again. Romans 8:1. Jesus made us (in our spirit) righteous and holy. Now we can focus on His perfect love for us and not on us trying to earn or deserve His love (Grace). I can now enjoy the purpose of marriage; to be fruitful. Galatians 5:22. I can bear fruit unto God. Romans 7:4.
